Sangamankada surf guide

Sangamankada is a surf spot located over an hour from Arugam Bay. It’s not very well-known and often gets skipped by many surfers. Access is a bit tricky, which adds to its low popularity. The area isn’t the most picturesque, scoring around 2 out of 10 for its overall environment. If you're looking for a spot that’s off the beaten path, this could be it, but keep your expectations in check.

The waves here can vary quite a bit depending on how the sand builds up along the shore and are heavily influenced by river flows. The best swell direction is from the SouthEast, but it can handle swells from the North and South as well. You might find some waves working best at around 1 ft (0.3 m). When conditions are right, you can expect right-breaking waves over sand, which is a good setup for beginners. The waves generally work best at low, mid, and high tides, so you’ve got some flexibility there. If the wind is coming from the SouthWest, it can improve your session, making for a smoother ride.

It's worth noting that Sangamankada and its neighbor Komari are not surfed often, primarily due to the difficult access and inconsistent wave quality. If you’re keen on checking it out, be ready for a less-than-polished surf experience compared to more popular spots. But for those looking for something different and don’t mind the adventure, it might just fit the bill.
