Sans Souci surf guide

Sans Souci is located about 15 minutes down the road from the Toco fishing depot. This beach break is well-known among surfers, as it offers a mix of waves depending on the sandbars developing on either side of the bay. The conditions can vary, but when the left is on, it can really turn out to be a fun session.

The surf here can handle swell sizes from around 1m to 2.1m (3ft to 7ft). It works best with northeast swells, but you can also catch waves from the north and east. The waves generally break over sand, making it a relatively safe option for all abilities, especially when the conditions are calm. When it’s bigger, the right tends to dominate, but there’s a solid left that rolls in too. Just keep in mind it can get a bit tricky if it closes out in shallow water. Low, mid, and high tides are all good to go, but you’ll feel the paddle effort increase as the surf size cranks up.

You can access the beach easily, with parking right there, and the crowd factor isn’t too bad, making it a nice spot to hit. The local vibe is pretty mellow, so just be respectful and enjoy your time. Late summer and fall bring in the tropical cyclone swells, while late fall through early spring often offers consistency, especially for shortboarders looking for a solid ride.
