Sao Fernando surf guide

Sao Fernando is a surf spot known for its small waves and beginner-friendly setup. Located just north of the harbour, itโ€™s often popular with local bodyboarders and newer surfers. You'll find it easily accessible via the coast road one-way system from Porto Martins past Ponta Negra. With lots of rocks nearby, it's important to keep your eyes open as you navigate the area.

The surf here works best on north swells, and it can also handle northwest and east swells. The waves typically break over an uneven reef and are mainly right-handers. You can expect the surf to be manageable at around 2 feet (0.6 meters) but keep in mind that it tends to back off as the tide pushes in from mid. The best wind direction for the spot is also from the northwest, and mid tide heights are preferable for a good session, making it great for beginners to practice their skills.

Since the spot can get crowded, especially with its popularity among locals, be prepared to share the waves. The vibe here might not be the most laid-back due to the frequent traffic, but it's still a good place to catch some fun waves if you're starting out or just looking for a casual surf session.
