Scotts Head surf guide

Scotts Head is a well-known surf spot located on the New South Wales coast. It's a favorite among locals and visitors alike, thanks to its long rides and variety of waves. The spot features a mix of reef and sand breaks, catering to surfers of different skills. It's accessible for beginner surfers, especially when the conditions are on the smaller side. However, the beach can get crowded, especially during weekends and holidays.

The surf at Scotts Head is generally quite enjoyable, with waves that can offer rides of 300-400 meters. The best conditions come from a SouthEast swell, and it can handle sizes starting from around 2 feet (approximately 0.6 meters) up to much bigger days. The waves typically break to the right, making it a solid spot for right-handers. Low and mid tide are usually the best times to hit the water, and when there's a SouthWest wind, that can help clean up the surf. The rocky point provides a unique challenge when jumping in, especially with larger swells rolling through.

While itโ€™s great for beginners when the surf is small, more experienced surfers will also find some thrilling sections, particularly when the waves get longer and more powerful. If you're looking for something different, check out the beach breaks on either side of the head; they can also produce fun waves. Overall, Scotts Head is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and keen to catch some waves.
