Serenade is a popular surf spot located a 40-minute walk from Sopi. It is known as a solid left that attracts many surfers looking to ride some decent waves. The name comes from a pioneering boat, and many overland travelers make their way to Serenade to enjoy what it has to offer. To reach the water, you'll need to paddle across the bay for about 10 minutes, or you can use a charter that drops you off at the mooring reef behind the break.
The surf at Serenade can handle swell sizes around 2ft (approximately 0.6 meters) with optimal swell direction coming from the NorthEast and also handles North and East swells. It breaks over live coral, providing a unique surfing experience. The waves break left and can produce a ledgy take-off, leading to an angular barrel section that often shuts down. After the barrel, surfers can catch nice, smooth walls with variable speed, perfect for lip-tapping and roundhouses. The tide conditions vary, but you can generally have a good session during low, mid, or high tide, especially when the wind is coming from the SouthWest. This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers looking for some fun waves.
Keep in mind that the two main sections of the wave can be distinctly separate when the swell is smaller. While the reef is mostly benign, the inside section that closes down near the tall, jungled shoreline can get a bit sketchy, so be mindful as you navigate your way back in. Enjoy the ride and make the most of what Serenade has to offer!
