Shipstern Bluff, also known as Fluffys, is a notable surf spot located in Tasmania. It's famous for its intense and powerful waves, often drawing comparisons to legendary breaks like Jaws and Teahupoo. Located near a rugged boulder-strewn headland, this wave is not for the faint of heart. When the right swells come in, it’s mostly tow-in surfers who tackle this beast, as the size and unpredictability make traditional paddle surfing a risky endeavor.

The surf at Shipstern Bluff is best when the swell comes from the southwest, hitting sizes of around 4ft (1.2m) and up. The waves break over an uneven reef, producing massive right-hand point breaks that can deliver some serious thrills, including double barrels that pack a punch. The high tide is preferred here, and with the right wind coming from the north, the conditions can get pretty wild. Only expert surfers should consider taking on this challenge, as the wave can be extremely hazardous if you’re not prepared.

Getting to Shipstern Bluff involves a bit of a hike, about 7km (4.5mi), through the beautiful Tasman National Park, which takes around two hours. It’s key to note that if you blow the take-off or make a mistake out there, getting back is no easy feat due to the surrounding house-sized boulders and the impact zone. So, if you're thinking about heading out, make sure you’re ready for a big day.
