Shipwreck surf guide

Shipwreck is a surf spot located at Palmeirinhas, known for picking up a lot of swell. The area can get quite windy, which impacts the conditions, especially later in the day. This spot is a beach break, which can produce fun waves but it's generally best to surf it in the morning before the wind gets too strong. The sunken freighter that gave the spot its name is gone now, so new surfers might need some help finding the right place to surf.

This spot works best with south swell and can handle sizes starting from about 0.3 meters (1 ft) up to around 1.8 meters (6 ft). You might find both left and right waves here. The ideal wind direction is from the northeast, and the surf is usually best during low to mid to high tide. If you're an intermediate surfer, you'll find this spot a decent challenge, but it's definitely rideable if you catch it at the right time.

If the swell exceeds 1.8 meters (6 ft), it might be a good idea to drive to a more sheltered spot to avoid getting blown out. It’s also worth noting that locating the surf spot may take some guessing these days, so it's a good idea to go with someone who knows the area.
