The west-facing beaches of Shoal Bay can conjure some nice triangles, with Zenith being the easiest to access below the Tomaree National Park. Box Beach is bodyboard heaven as the waves get massive side and backwash off the cliffs and jack up insane wedging left pits. Furthest south, Fingal Spit, which often gets washed away, can be clean and peeling right for distance in E swells and S winds.
Strong currents and a drive by area for sharks heading into Port Stephens, which is larger than Sydney Harbour.
