Silabok Island surf guide

Silabok Island is a small, tranquil spot located behind the tip of Sipura, making it a decent getaway from the intense surf of nearby reefs like Iceland and Telescopes. It's home to the Aloita Resort, which means you usually won't find many people in the water. This makes it a good option for those looking to enjoy some waves without the hassle of big crowds. The surf here is more manageable, catering primarily to resort guests who want a more relaxed experience.

The north coast offers left-handed waves at Muka Ikan (Fish Face) and Tikus (Rat). These spots provide walls and shoulders that work well for improvers and cruisers looking for some fun rides. The ideal swell direction is south-west, and the spot handles swell sizes around 2 ft (about 0.6 meters). For it to really come alive, you need some west in the swell with winds coming from the south-east. When the tide is low, mid, or high, you can expect waves to break over live coral, making this a unique reef break that's great for beginners.

Being close to the Mentawai capital, Tua Pajet, Silabok is pretty accessible with air and ferry links. It's a solid choice if you're looking to escape the more crowded surf spots nearby and enjoy a laid-back session in the water.
