Songak Mountain Point surf guide

Songak Mountain Point is located beneath the striking Mt. Songaksan, making for a scenic surf spot. This spot primarily breaks on those rare typhoon swells coming from the Southeast and Southwest. While it’s known for its right-hand point break, there are also some rocky peaks that can be surfed closer to the pier where the ferry to Mara Island docks. A longer left can be found on the other side of the mountain, but it's not surfed much due to its tricky access.

The right wave works best with swells at sizes around 3 feet (0.9 meters) and is most enjoyable when the swell comes from the Southeast. It breaks over an uneven reef, so it’s not for beginners—this spot is better suited for expert surfers. For optimal conditions, the wind should ideally be coming in from the west, and you can surf here at low, mid, or high tide. While the left wave is a tempting option, it’s less frequently surfed and requires a bit more effort to get to.

Surfers should be prepared for a heavy water area, which reinforces the need for expertise in handling the conditions at Songak Mountain Point. This spot offers a mix of challenges and beautiful scenery, making it an interesting place to catch some waves.
