Sosua surf guide

Sosua is a surf spot located on the north coast, known for its unique reef pass waves. It’s one of the few true reef breaks in the region and can handle swells from various directions, making it a sought-after location among experienced surfers. The water here is nice and warm, typical of the Caribbean, and the crowds are usually pretty light, so you'll often have some space to enjoy the waves.

This spot works best with swells coming from the north or northeast, and can handle wave sizes from about 5ft (1.5m) to 10ft (3m). When conditions are right, expect a solid overhead to double overhead experience. The waves here break over coral, offering both lefts and rights. It’s best surfed when the wind is coming from the south, south-southwest, or southwest, especially at low to mid tide. However, be aware that this spot is for stronger paddlers only, so make sure you’re comfortable in the water before heading out.

Access to the waves involves a long paddle, or you can hire a boat to get there, which can save some energy for your session. Keep in mind that this spot is recommended for intermediate to expert surfers due to the shallow reef and the need for good paddling skills. The best seasons to surf here are fall through spring, giving you plenty of time to catch the perfect wave.
