South Bay, Pingtan Island surf guide
Surf: Several surfable waves north and south of the big rock. Nice lefthander just beside the rocks and righthanders in the middle of the bay when the huge 7m tide drops out. Better at high tide. Beware of rocks close to the shore and strong rips. Can be surfed also with strong E and NE onshore wind, so it is pretty consistent in winter.
Environment: Pingtan (aka Haitan) is the biggest island in Fujian and the fifth largest in China. The bridge connecting it to Xiaoshandong (小山东) made it more accessible in 2010. The main spot is located 10 min drive east of town, just south of Pingtan bay, in a smaller and deeper bay.
