South Jetty/Dog Beach is a popular spot for surfers looking for a laid-back vibe. It's located at the end of Voltaire Street, making it easy to find. The beach is known for its local dog-friendly atmosphere, so don’t be surprised to see pups running around while you catch some waves.
The surf here can be pretty decent, with a good chance of finding some punchy sections and even a few tubes, especially when the swell is peaky, around a foot or two overhead (0.3 to 0.6 meters). The optimal swell direction is southwest, but you can also catch some rides with swells from the south and northwest. The beach breaks over sand and caters to both left and right wave directions. It handles swell sizes starting at 1 foot (about 0.3 meters) and can be surfed at pretty much any tide—low, mid, or high—making it a versatile option.
When you're out there, you might want to pay attention to the wind as well; east winds tend to work best. Just remember, while surfing, keep an eye out for the occasional dog waste on the beach, as the area is popular with dog owners.
