Overview
South Point sits at the bottom tip of Barbados, breaking over live coral in front of the lighthouse. The main draw is long lefts that run in sections, linking up when the swell is big enough into fast walls with cover-ups. There are shorter, bowly rights on offer too, though they catch more of the wind than the lefts do.
When It Works
The reef picks up swell from east to southeast, and southeast is the direction that lines it up best. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, with the bigger end of that range being when the sections have the best chance of joining into one long wall. Consistency is good, so there are waves here regularly rather than only on rare swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for north wind to groom it offshore. Mid to high tide is what the reef prefers, and a rising tide is generally the better call. Be aware that a bad backwash comes into play through that tide window.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable over a live coral reef. Expect a busy lineup, with local surfers who have the place wired and know exactly where the sections start and end. There are plenty of urchins on the reef, so watch your footing and be mindful of what is underneath you.
Access
Parking is easy enough: there is a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking nearby.
