Spanish Point is located on the southeast tip of Barbuda and features a barrier reef setup. This spot is recognized for its sectioning lefts and occasional scruffy rights that tend to perform best under calm wind conditions. Generally, the barrier reefs lining the eastern shore can get pretty torn up by onshore winds, but when the conditions align, particularly on rare windless days or during a northwest swell, it can provide some fun surf.
The optimal swell direction here is from the northeast, with the ability to handle swell sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). In addition to the favorable northeast swells, southeast swells can work as well. The waves break over live coral, offering both lefts and rights, though the lefts are more prominent. For the best surfing experience, northwesterly winds are preferred, and the tide can be good whether it’s low, mid, or high. It's worth noting that this spot is really best suited for intermediate surfers who can handle variable conditions.
Nearby, Two Foot Bay provides easy access and a section of the reef that might hold some rights when the conditions are just right. While Spanish Point can be hit or miss depending on the wind and swell, it can definitely offer some fun sessions if you catch it on a good day.
