Spring Lake surf guide

Spring Lake is a surf spot located in New Jersey, featuring a few different beaches ideal for various surf styles. The area is popular among both locals and tourists, especially during the warmer months. Access to the beach is pretty easy, but keep in mind that beach badges are required in the summer season. Overall, the environment is clean, making for a nice day out on the waves.

When it comes to surfing, Spring Lake has a mix of spots that can cater to different skill levels. Mambo Beach and Washington are located at the north end and are known as a hollow beachbreak and a longboard haven, respectively. The surf can generally handle swell sizes from 3 to 12 feet (about 0.9 to 3.7 meters). Surfing here is best during a south swell, where the inside corner bowls up to create a fun, hollow left. Surfer's Beach, also known as Kook Bay, tends to be mushy and is great for beginners. Down at the south end, another series of jetties can create some solid waves, especially on bigger days. The preferred wind directions are southwest to northwest, and for best results, lower to low-mid tide is the way to go.

Spring Lake's surf season runs from September through March, which is perfect for those looking to catch seasonal swells. The beach offers a sandy bottom, which is friendly for various boards, whether youโ€™re on a shortboard, fish, longboard, or even a bodyboard. Paddling tends to be mellow, but watch out for rips forming around the groins when the waves get bigger. Overall, on the right day with the right swell, Spring Lake can offer some fun sessions for surfers of all abilities.
