More about St. Simons Island surfspot
General: St. Simons is a beautiful, barely developed, funky little island, most of it fronted by sandbars that crap up the surf; however, there are still a couple of breaks to sample. There's really only one workable mainland spot, and that's the jetty at 5th Street. It breaks on strong E to NE windswells up to head-high, but it won't get much bigger, thanks to the offshore sandbars. The tidal range along this stretch of GA coast is extreme and can cause strong currents. Tides: high Size: knee-head high Wind: W, NW Swell: SE, E Bottom: sand Paddling: Hard NE and SW winds can produce strong currents, but generally pretty mellow. Spot Rating: Can offer a fun little wave on its day, but overall not a surf destination.
