State Line is located at the California-Oregon border, accessed via Pelican State Beach. From there, surfers typically drive north a couple hundred yards (about 220 meters) to a tree-fringed parking area. The area features a sand beach with bars situated between rocky spots. Depending on the conditions, surfers can find some decent beach breaks, especially on smaller swells when the tides are mid to high.
The waves here mainly break over sand and can offer rides in both left and right directions. It's best to catch these waves when the swell is coming from the south or north-west, with optimal sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). For beginners, this spot is friendly since it can handle those smaller swells well. The ideal wind direction is from the northeast, which can really help in cleaning up the surf conditions.
State Line isn’t usually crowded, making it a more relaxed spot to surf. With its nice parking area and interesting wave action, it offers a good experience for those just learning or for surfers looking for a laid-back session. Just keep in mind, there is a modest shark concern here, so stay aware while enjoying the waves.
