Supertubes (Northland) surf guide

Supertubes in Northland is a surf spot that attracts experienced surfers looking for some challenging waves. This location usually has a moderate crowd, especially on good days, but it can get pretty busy during peak times. The scenery is decent, making it a pleasant spot to hang out when you’re not in the water.

The waves here deliver a hell drop into a deep pit, followed by a steep speed wall that leads towards Mukies. You'll want to catch it at the right time to really enjoy it. The optimal swell direction is from the SouthWest, and it can handle swell sizes starting from about 2 feet (0.6 meters). It breaks over a mix of uneven reef and sand, producing left-hand point waves. For the best experience, aim for low to mid tide and keep an eye on the wind, which should ideally come from the south. Just a heads up, this spot is meant for expert surfers only, as the drop, rip, and shallow rocks can pose some challenges.

When the conditions are right, Supertubes can peel perfectly. It’s a great place if you're confident in your skills and looking for a good ride. Just remember that it's not beginner-friendly, so make sure you're prepared for the conditions before you paddle out.
