Supertubos is one of the top surf spots in Europe, located in Portugal. Known for its impressive waves, it has carved out a reputation as a favorite among surfers, especially during the pro tour events. The beach boasts a main peak that delivers reliable surf, making it a popular destination for both locals and visitors alike.
The surf at Supertubos is notable for its fast, heavy lefts and shorter rights. This beach break works best with a swell size ranging from 5ft to 12ft (about 1.5m to 3.6m). Swells typically come from the South and Northwest, with the optimal direction being Southwest. The best wind conditions are from the Northeast, while the tide can be low, mid, or high, though mid to high tends to work well. Surfers should be ready to paddle out as the wave doesn’t break far from the shore, but catching a good one requires some effort and quick paddling. It’s ideal for intermediate surfers, and most will use shortboards here.
As for the environment, while there can be some other peaks along the beach to cater to the crowds, you’ll usually find anywhere from 50 to 100 surfers out when it’s firing. The vibe is pretty much typical of small towns; locals know who's who and are often keen to let others know. Autumn is the prime season for surf, but you can find decent days in winter and spring as well, while summer is usually a bit slow.
