Overview
Supertubos is a world-class beachbreak and one of the best waves in Europe. It breaks over sand, with one main peak offering a super-fast left and a shorter right, plus another peak down the beach that can still be very good.
The waves are known for long, heavy tubes, along with the occasional shutdown close-out. The lefts are usually better, though shorter rights can peel off the main peak, especially with northwest conditions.
When It Works
The optimal swell direction is southwest. It also works with west and west-northwest swells, while too much north in the swell can leave it shadowed.
Supertubos is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. It is moderately consistent, with autumn the best season, and some good days in winter and spring. Summer is much slower.
Wind and Tide
The offshore wind direction is northeast. East winds can also be good, and the spot has some protection from northerly winds.
Mid to high tide is typically best, and a rising tide is better.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate shortboard wave with a very busy lineup. When it is pumping, expect heavy crowds around the main peak, with plenty of bodyboarders and local tube-seekers.
There can be a few lesser peaks further along the beach that help spread people out a little, but the main wave stays crowded. Hazards include crowds and hitting the sand bottom on bigger days.
The nearby fish factory smell can get intense.
Access
There is easy parking in front of the break, with a car park, free parking, and roadside parking available. Theft from vehicles is common, so keep valuables out of the car.
Facilities include showers, camping, a lifeguard, surf school, and surf shop.
