Surfers Beach (Puerto Rico) surf guide
Surf: Surfers Beach is a consistent, accessible reef peak on the Ramey Air Force Base and ranges from fun shoulders to punchy barrels, depending on the swell direction. NE will favour and lengthen the rights, which draw the most attention.
Environment: The rips, urchins, crowds with attitude and pollution are an issue.
Surf: General: Surfer's has a long right and a short, punchy left; the right is shifty, steep, down-the-line, and has a few different sections, making it ideal for scattering the ever-present crowd. NW swells make it more of an A-frame situation while N and NE swells create more of a right pointbreak effect.
Tides: Not the biggest tidal changes but lower generally better.
Size: Head high-double overhead
Wind: East or Southeast
Swell: NW, N
Bottom: Reef
Paddling: Depends on the size but when it gets bigger it can definitely be a workout.
Spot Rating: Several different peaks offer a big playing field which helps with the crowd.
Access: Drive down the hill and park in the dirt parking lot.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Can get crowded but typically it is rather spread out.
Local Vibe: Not too bad as it's spread out.
Environment: Pretty good.
Hazards: Make sure you known how to get back in.
Season: Late summer and fall for tropical cyclone swells but late fall through early spring for consistency.
