Surfside Jetty surf guide

Surfside Jetty is located just south of Seal Beach and is part of a gated community that offers a unique surfing experience. Known for its sandy beachbreak, this spot is mostly frequented by a dedicated crowd of locals. The best time to hit it is early in the morning during low tide, especially when the conditions are right. However, be prepared for some heavy onshore winds as the day progresses.

The best waves here are found breaking right off the jetty, especially during big west swells and low tides. When it's on, you can expect rippable wedges that can handle swell sizes from about 4 feet (1.2 meters) to 8 feet (2.4 meters). The wave direction is primarily right, and it works best with a swell coming from the southwest or south, while a north-east wind can create glassy conditions. Crowds can be a factor, especially at peaks near the jetty, so be ready to compete for waves.

Paddling can be quite a workout when the surf is good, and the spot is suitable for intermediate surfers. It's important to note that the surf can get heavy, with some significant currents to navigate. During the summer months, after 10 AM, the northwest winds tend to pick up, making things a bit choppy. If you're riding shortboards, fish, or bodyboards, you'll find that this spot can deliver some exciting rides throughout the year, particularly during the solid swells from November to February.
