Taylor’s Mistake is a bit more exposed to an E-NE swell and gets some chunky lefts and rights near the beach headlands at lower tides. Holds more size than other beaches, which is when it gets good, since it has a tendency to close-out in smaller swells. Offers wind protection from the NW which just adds to the always crowded vibe.

From Christchurch City head east on Moorhouse Ave, which leads onto Ferry Road. Continue on all the way to Sumner, then turn left onto Nayland Street. At the bottom of the hill the road will turn to the left and become Heberden Ave, then it will turn into Scarborough Road and wind up and over the hill. The road will Turn into Taylors Mistake Road as it winds down the other side into Taylors Mistake. Find a park and get out there.
