Te Kapu surf guide

Te Kapu is a surf spot located on the eastern coast of the Mahia Peninsula. It features a pair of reef breaks known as First and Second Reef. The area is known for its rugged beauty, with white sandstone cliffs and some less consistent reefs farther out towards Boat Harbour. It's a place where surfers can find a mix of fun waves and a natural vibe.

The surf here is mostly right-handers that offer good opportunities for high-performance turns, especially when the swell is coming from the NorthEast or SouthEast. The spot handles swell sizes around 2ft (0.6 meters) quite well. It breaks over an uneven reef, so be careful and know your limits. Conditions are best with a mid tide and when the wind is coming from the SouthWest. Overall, this spot suits intermediate surfers looking for some fun waves.

When the reefs are messy or dealing with wind, it might be worth checking out the beach break, which can offer some decent alternatives. The surroundings make for a nice place to unwind after a session, and the spot often doesn't get too crowded, which can be a plus for getting more waves. Just be sure to keep an eye on the conditions, as they can change quickly.
