More about Te Kapu surfspot

Te Kapu is a pair of quality reef breaks called First and Second Reef, which are both fun right handers with plenty of opportunities for high performance turns. If the reefs are suffering a little from wind and are messy then the beach break may be worth a look.

From Napier, head north on Pandora Road State Highway 2, onto Meeanee Quay and Main North Road out of the city. Continue on State Highway 2 through Wairoa, then at Nuhaka go straight through the roundabout onto Nuhaka Opoutama Road. Continue along Nuhaka Opoutama Road, turn right onto Ormond Drive. WHen you get to Mahia beach, continue straight ahead onto Mahia East Coast Road. The road will cut across to the east coast of mahia peninsula and down the coast through Mahia. Continue south of Mahia, just south of The Spit.

There are more scrappy bits of reef towards the Boat Harbour in front of the white sandstone cliffs.
