The Fence surf guide
Surf: The Fence is found at the far end of Kings Beach where it meets the extensive harbour wall that provides the perfect reflection angle for wedging left peaks. Gets insanely hollow and working out which ones will get the perfect bounce takes time, but its allure guarantees weekend crowds. Higher tides and big SW or moderate NE-SE swells fanned by a SW wind. Some of the older locals claim that it was way better back in the day, but due to the movement of the sand it has slowly deteriorated and lost consistency. With that said, it still offers up some meaty barrels with the right conditions, and a really fun, smashable wall when the swell is slightly smaller.
Environment: Bodyboarders love this wave and can be protective. The harbour docks with trains and cranes can be a bit of a dodgy area, so park at the waterslide and walk up Kings Beach, which can have some decent waves especially at lower tides when Fence isn't working.
