The Money Wave surf guide

The Money Wave is a surf spot located along the Moroccan coastline, south of Safi. It's right in front of a huge factory, so the vibe can be a bit off, but it still attracts surfers looking for some solid waves. The spot has faded from the must-visit list of many traveling surfers over the years, but those who know it still recognize that the waves can be quite good if you hit the right conditions.

The surf here is mainly a powerful, right-hander that can handle swell sizes from about 1 meter (3 ft) to 2.5 meters (8 ft). The ideal swell directions are from the Northwest, West, and West-Northwest. When the waves are on, they offer some fun barrels and decent faces for turning, making it a good spot for intermediate and expert surfers. Just be ready for some long paddles, especially on bigger days, since the water can move a lot out here. Best times to surf are during low to mid tides, especially with an east or east-north-east wind to make the most of the conditions.

Access to The Money Wave is pretty straightforward; you can park easily in front of the factory, and the crowds are generally light, with a few locals around on weekends. If you connect with them, they might even point you towards some lesser-known reefs along the coast which have much nicer scenery. The best season for surfing here is during the fall and into winter when the North Atlantic storms start rolling in, bringing more consistent swells.
