The Office surf guide

The Office is a surf spot located in East Sumba, near the first surf lodge, East Sumba Lodge, in Kallala. This area is known for its fairly consistent waves and a laid-back vibe. The beach features three left-hand waves that work well with different swells and tides. It’s a spot that can get busy, but you’ll often find some quieter moments, especially if you time your sessions right.

The waves here are pretty versatile. The Office handles swell sizes starting from a modest 1ft (about 0.3 meters) and can accommodate swells coming from the SouthWest and West. The main wave is a left that breaks over dead coral, providing some fun, lazy walls that are suitable for various skill levels. It can also throw in the odd cover-up, making it enjoyable for intermediate surfers. For beginners, there’s a forgiving beach break on the inside, making it a good place to learn the ropes. The preferred wind direction is from the NorthEast, and the spot works best during low to mid tide.

This spot is suitable for surfers of all abilities, but beginners will find the inside beach break especially friendly. When visiting The Office, it’s good to keep an eye on the tide and swirls so you can catch the best waves and have fun without worrying too much.
