Elands Bay is a small hamlet located on a sandy riverbank, ideal for surfers seeking a spot with consistent conditions. The Point is a popular break that often waits for a good swell to hit. It features steep drops into fast, hollow walls that can create some fun tubes, especially when conditions align. The waves wrap across a kelp-covered reef, ending with a sandy section near the river mouth, making it a unique spot for wave riding.
This break works best with swells coming from the west but can handle south-west and north-west swells as well. It typically functions well with swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and can be surfed at low, mid, and high tides. The waves tend to break left, and the preferred wind direction is from the southeast. Though the spot is suited to intermediate surfers, more experienced riders will likely find it worth their time when the conditions are good.
Itβs worth noting that The Point can get busy, especially with kites and longboards sharing the water with the local surfers. There are some consistent beach breaks to the north, and you might also find rights on a nearby reef, giving you options. To access the break, it's best to park in town and take a short walk up to the point.
