More about The Witterings surfspot

4 mile stretch of average peaks from Wittering to Selsey, along a beach held together by numerous groynes.

General: This huge stretch of sandy beach joins up with East Wittering and is more in the swell shadow of the Isle of Wight. Needs a really big swell to wrap in here, and is popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers for a reason. However, it can offer some long, rolling, wind swell waves. Better at low tides. Easy parking just behind beach. Tides: Works on all tides but low best. Size: Thigh to head high. Wind: NE Swell: Big SW Bottom: Big, flat sandy beach. Paddling: Easy. Spot Rating: Tends to close out unless small when long rolling waves are popular with the local longboard crew.

Good for any and all.

There's a big car park just behind the dunes.

December - February as needs a big swell.

Crowd Factor: Popular but loads of room to spread out. Local Vibe: Fairly relaxed.

Popular with London surfers. Rarely epic but has its day. Also popular with wave sailors/kite boarders. Huge, expensive car park in West Wittering and surf shop in East Wittering. Campgrounds for the masses.

OK - can be sewage after heavy rains.

Rips when bigger, groynes.
