Third Reef is located directly between Deadmans and No Pass, featuring a reef peak that breaks relatively far from the beach. This spot isn't surfed too often, partly due to thoughts of shark attacks, which keeps the crowds away. To reach it, you'll need to take a five-minute walk south from Deadmans.
This break offers fast, lined-up lefts and long, easy rights, making it quite a ride for those who like a bit of a challenge. It works best with a clean, medium-sized swell from the west, but it can also handle south and north swells. Ideal conditions pop up when the swell is around 2 to 8 feet (or about 0.6 to 2.4 meters). Low tide is the way to go here, along with an east wind. It's really more suited for expert surfers since the uneven reef can make things tricky.
Aside from the waves, remember that the reef setup plays a big role in how the surf breaks. Just keep in mind that Third Reef can offer solid sessions when conditions align, but itβs always good to be cautious out there.
