Thotapalli, located near Alappuzha, is a beach spot that’s not going to blow your mind but can still offer a wave or two for the eager surfer. It’s a busy place with locals watching you get on the waves, and you might notice some sand and less-than-pristine conditions. Overall, it's a pretty average spot, but if you're in the area and want to catch some surf, it's worth a look.
The surf here handles sizes as small as 1ft (about 0.3 meters) and is primarily a beach break. You can catch both left and right waves, depending on the swell. For optimal conditions, the best swell direction is from the SouthWest, though swells coming from the South or West are also fine. The tides are pretty flexible here, with good surf happening during low, mid, and high tides, but if the wind is coming from the NorthEast, you’ll be more likely to enjoy the ride.
This spot is suitable for beginners, making it a decent place to practice if you're starting out. Just remember, there are better and more consistent waves a bit further south, but if you find yourself at Thotapalli, get in the water and give it a go!
