Tonel surf guide

Tonel is a popular surf spot located near Sagres, known for being one of the more consistent beaches in the area. It attracts a mix of surfers, especially beginners and intermediates, thanks to its manageable waves. The ambiance can get a bit busy due to its popularity, but it still has a friendly vibe. The beach is well-equipped with amenities, making it convenient for surfers looking to spend a day in the water.

The surf at Tonel usually works best with a west swell and can handle swell sizes around 2ft (0.6 meters). It has beach breaks that create both left and right waves, making it a good spot for different types of surfers. For the best conditions, low to mid tide works well, and a northeast wind is preferred. The spot can also pick up swells from the south and northwest, but generally, it doesn't get as big as some of the west coast spots. So, if you're a beginner looking to catch some waves, this might just be the place for you.

Curiously, while the spot may not challenge advanced surfers much, it's a great environment for learning and refining skills. You might find it crowded at times, and local bodyboarders often hang out here. Just be ready for a bit of localism, as that can be a factor here, so respect the lineup and you'll be fine!
