Torrisdale is a surf spot tucked away in a large bay that offers a mix of waves and sandy bottoms. It's a place where you can find various peaks along the beach, making it a bit of a playground for surfers looking to catch some fun waves. The best action happens at the east end of the bay, where you'll find some fast and hollow rides. The western end has a left rivermouth that can be worth checking out, offering a nice contrast to the right-handers you’ll find elsewhere.
The surf here works best with a north swell, but you can also get decent waves with west and northeast swells. It handles swell sizes from about 2ft (0.6m) and breaks over sand. While you can find waves at all tides, low to mid tide is preferable for the rivermouths. The currents can be strong, so it’s important to be an expert when hitting the water here. You’ll often find a mix of lefts and rights depending on where you set up, but keep in mind that this spot is not for beginners.
Accessing the beach is pretty straightforward, just make sure to park responsibly along the lane above the beach. It’s important to respect the local residents and always clean up after yourself to keep the area nice for everyone. Enjoy the surf at Torrisdale, but make sure you know what you're doing out there!
