More about Tuamoto Island surfspot

Long hollow lefts break along the southern reef of Tuamotu Island when a medium E-S swell appears, calling all locals to grab some tube time at The Bowl. Lower tides, NNE winds and a S swell should see epic waves from the peak to the channel. More E or even huge NE swell will start the smaller intense rights at Inside Island, where NW is offshore.

From Gisborne town centre drive east on Gladstone Road, onto Wainui Road, State Highway 35, towards Wainui. Start going up the hill to Wainui and turn right onto Sponge Bay Road. Drive to the end of the road and Sponge Bay beach. From here its a long paddle out to Tuamotu Island. Boat acces is always an option too.

Requires a very long paddle (1.2km) from Sponge Bay or short boat ride for lucky locals.
