Vila Nova surf guide

Vila Nova is a surf spot located in a remote area, primarily accessible by boat. The surf scene here is pretty mellow, so don’t expect a crowd. It’s known mainly for its challenging waves and unique setup, making it an interesting place for experienced surfers looking for something a bit different.

The waves at Vila Nova break over an uneven reef, handling swells from 6ft (about 1.8 meters) and bigger. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, but it can also pick up waves from the West and North. You can find heavy rights and the occasional left, with fast, thick barrels that form as the swells hit the reef. It’s important to note that the low tide can be really dangerous, so this spot is best suited for experts who know what they’re doing. Mid to high tide is preferable, especially with light South winds that create cleaner conditions.

Since it’s primarily a boat access spot, you’ll likely be surfing solo, which can be a nice change from busier beaches. There’s another dangerous righthander called Talisca nearby, but be cautious with the currents there. Overall, Vila Nova is a spot that rewards those who are up for the challenge.
