Wackas is a surf spot located at the rivermouth of Tafitoala village, forming a bay where surfers can catch some fun waves. Known also as Sales, this spot offers a unique experience for those looking to ride some lefts that can be a bit walled up. It’s not overly protected from the Southeast trades, so be prepared for that when you head out.
This spot works best with a swell coming from the Southwest but can also pick up some action from the Southeast. It handles swell sizes starting at 2ft (about 0.6 meters) and is known for its left-breaking waves over live coral. The conditions tend to be better during mid to high tide, and the ideal wind direction is from the Northeast. Since it can be a bit tricky, it’s more suited for intermediate surfers who are comfortable navigating these types of waves.
Wackas can get some crowds, especially in the early morning from nearby resorts. The shallow inside section can be fun to watch, but it’s good to keep in mind that you might share the waves with other surfers looking to make the most of this spot.
