More about Wategoes (Byron Bay) surfspot

Wategoes sits astride the most eastern point of Australia and while the rock and sand try to coalesce into a defined righthand point, more often than not you get a bunch of mixed up, rolling peaks that shoulder and reform through the cove. This makes it ideal for any ability and any craft to get some action and it is still nicely offshore in the SE summer onshores. There are more rocks out the end at Little Wategoes and the rights can be a little more defined, but it is all subject to the regular rearrangement of the sand out here.

Absolutely always crowded with longboarders and soft-tops. Tourists flock to the viewpoints, lighthouse and walking paths around Cape Byron so snaking a spot on Marine Drive or in the Brooke Drive pay car park is damn near impossible on summer days.
