Westhaven surf guide
Surf: General: Since the area faces southwest, all the spots are mediocre and rely on N wind and bigger swell to be rideable. A haven for cold, sunny, NW wind days with big swell. Also a haven for weak surf and crowds. From south to north, there's the ever-popular Moonstone Beach, an ideal beginner's spot since it's wide and flat. The Little River empties here, but rarely forms a good sandbar. Moonstone is best on a medium tide with a two to four-foot W swell and E wind; it can either be a saggy mushburger or a snappy tube with speed to burn. Just north is Camel Rock, another super-popular, N-wind-sheltered beachbreak that can resemble a right point when it's on. Again, it can either be a total closeout or 100 yards long. Nice paddling channel next to Camel Rock itself. Gets very crowded. North of Camel Rock is Trinidad Head/State Beach, a funky, currently, rocky beachbreak that mainly qualifies as desperation surf. Same goes with College Cove, a crummy shorebreak setup.
