Wewak Point surf guide

Wewak Point, located in Wewak (population 63,000), offers some decent surfing opportunities despite its location. While some swell consistency and size may not measure up to prime spots, the access and amenities make it a manageable choice for surfers looking to catch some waves. The point is pretty easy to check from town, which adds to its appeal.

This spot is known for its reliable lefthand reef break. It works best with northeast swells, but can catch some northwest swells too. Wewak Point handles swell sizes from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and is more enjoyable at low to mid tide. At low tide, you can expect some tubular waves, while at high tide, the harbor channel usually produces a softer left. It's a spot that suits intermediate surfers best, so keep that in mind if youโ€™re planning to hit the waves.

When planning your surf trip, remember that a southwest wind direction is preferable here. The environment is affected by the nearby islands, creating a bit of a swell shadow, so northeast swells are the best option to maximize your surf experience. If you find yourself in Wewak, Wewak Point could be worth a visit, especially if you're looking for some fun lefts to ride.
