Wimereux is a surf spot located close to Boulogne, right off the D940. It’s not the most famous surf location, but it has its own charm. The main beach has average waves and can get crowded, particularly when the swell is up. It’s a place where you can enjoy a session, but don’t expect epic conditions every time you go.
The waves here usually break on sand and work best with a west swell. You can catch some action with heights starting from around 1ft (0.3 meters). The wave directions include lefts and rights, which makes it a decent spot for beginners to practice. For the best conditions, aim for mid to high tide, especially with a southeast wind. On the other hand, strong west winds can mess up the surf, so keep that in mind when planning your trip.
While the main beach offers average surf, the Pointe des Oies is where the real interest lies. This reef can really light up with any southwest swell, acting like a wave magnet. Just be aware, though, that it can get tricky with those stronger winds. Also, booties are recommended since you’ll be walking on some mussel-covered rocks.
