Amoreira surf guide

Amoreira is an exposed beach with a rivermouth under a headland to the south. It usually catches a lot of swell, especially from the southwest, and tends to have shifting sandbanks, so the wave conditions can change a lot. The spot features a good left in the rivermouth that peels towards the middle of the bay, and there's also a sand-covered reef at the northern end that produces rights. Overall, conditions are best when the size is smaller and clean.

This spot works across all tides and can deliver waves ranging from around 2ft to 6ft (about 0.6m to 1.8m). It often favors rights, but it also has some decent lefts. The best days are when the swell is coming from the southwest, north, or west, and it responds well to southeast or east winds. If you're an intermediate surfer, you'll find it a fun challenge, but watch out for the strong currents and rips that can be present.

Access is pretty straightforward with a car park at the northern end. The crowd factor is usually low, so you can often enjoy your sessions without too many fellow surfers around. Best months to visit are between September and May, with autumn, winter, and spring being prime seasons. Whether you’re on a shortboard, longboard, fish, or bodyboard, Amoreira can offer a decent surf day when the conditions align.
