More about Amoreira surfspot
A rivermouth break, favouring rights at lower stages of the tide. The currents can be horrendous and the wave itself is very fickle. Wind exposed, but gets lots of swell, preferably from the SW.
General: An exposed beach with a rivermouth under a headland at the south. It picks up heaps of swell and the currents tend to move the sand around meaning the banks can be fickle, however there can be a good left in the rivermouth peeling towards the middle of the bay and a sand covered reef producing rights at the northern end. Best when small and clean. Tides: Works on all tides. Size: Waist high to overhead. Wind: SE, E Swell: NW, W, SW Bottom: Sand and sand covered reef. Paddling: Currents and rips can be heavy. Spot Rating: Exposed beach with rivermouth banks and reef that is shifty and fickle - but on its day can be excellent.
Good for all when small - less experienced should be aware it can quickly get big and rippy.
Car park at northern end.
Best September to May.
Crowd Factor: Usually uncrowded. Local Vibe: Chilled.
Only medium consistency and rarely crowded.
OK, can be polluted after rain.
Has strong rips.
