Boca de Apisa is a surf spot located in Colima, known as the last option for quality beachbreak waves in the region. It's often less crowded than other spots, making it a decent choice for surfers looking for some space. The beach features a mix of sand, and while it might not be the most iconic location, it offers some fun conditions, especially for those willing to explore.
The surf here is best with medium south swells, which can produce thick, fast waves that crack on the sand. You can expect long rivermouth lefts when the sand is settled just right. The site handles swell sizes around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters) and works well with south and northwest swell directions. Surfers can enjoy both lefts and rights along the beach. The optimal wind direction is northeast, and it’s flexible with tide heights, working well at low, mid, and high tides. This spot is more suited for intermediate surfers, given the conditions.
Be aware of the strong currents that can occur here. There are also alligators in the area, so it’s good to stay vigilant. Just south of Boca de Apisa, there’s a reef with a Sunset-like break that only works on larger swells, while northwest-facing Punta San Telmo offers easier beach breaks. Keep these spots in mind if you're scouting for varied conditions nearby.
