More about Bolinas surfspot

General: It's not a real hot surf area, but decent if the winds are howling out of the NW and you don't feel like dealing with heavier waves farther north. The Sea Drift Road (east) side of the lagoon mouth sees some fun rights when the bars are correctly formed, while the Wharf/Brighton Road (west) side of the lagoon mouth produces surfable lefts. The waves in Bolinas generally have to be small to be rideable, and usually best on mid-high tide. Tides: Medium-High Size: Waist-overhead high Wind: N or NE Swell: S, SW Bottom: Sand Paddling: Not too bad. Spot Rating: Kinda fun.

Beginner-Intermediate

Through the town of Bolinas for the jetty: take Olema-Bolinas Road from Highway 1 and turn right on Brighton Ave.

March-October

Crowd Factor: Thick on key days, especially over the last few years, but there's always a chance you'll score it with a few others. Local Vibe: Nothing really once you get in the water. Big hangout for big sharks, though.

Minimal and nothing really to worry about.

Errant longboards and hungry sharks.
