Bouches du Roi surf guide

Bouches du Roi is located near the border with Togo, in the first town called Grand-Popo. This beach can be a bit hit or miss when it comes to surfing. It’s known for its low-quality closeout shorebreak, which means waves often break all at once, making it mostly unsurfable. It can also have powerful and dangerous rips, so it’s good to be cautious out there.

This spot is best for intermediate surfers. The optimal swell direction here is from the south, but it can also handle swells coming from the southeast and southwest. You can expect the waves to be rideable at sizes around 1ft (0.3 meters) and they mainly break over sand. The waves come in both lefts and rights, giving you some variety depending on the conditions. Winds from the north are preferred, and low to mid-tide works best for this spot.

While Bouches du Roi may not be the best surf spot around, it can offer some fun sessions when conditions line up right. Just keep in mind to check the surf forecast, as the quality can vary quite a bit.
