Buraco is a surf spot that offers surfers an interesting experience, especially when the conditions are just right. It’s located near a sandy point, making it a spot that’s relatively easy to access. The vibe here is pretty laid-back, attracting surfers looking for a decent session. However, be prepared for a bit of a drive back up the Mussulo Sandspit after your surf.
The wave at Buraco is a left, breaking over sand, which can be fun for intermediate surfers. It generally works best with swells from the west and can handle swell sizes starting at around 1 ft (0.3 meters). When the conditions are on, you can enjoy some long rides with a few hollow sections, which adds to the excitement. The best time to hit this spot is during lower tides, and it can also be surfable at mid and high tides. SouthEast winds are preferred, but they’re not a dealbreaker if they’re not ideal.
When it’s working, you can have some pretty enjoyable sessions here, but remember that without a good southwest or moderate west swell, the wave can be flat. So, it’s definitely a spot for those who can keep an eye on the swell and tide conditions.
