Cenitz is a rocky bay that can be a bit tricky to access, but it provides some solid options for surfers willing to make the trek. Located near Guethary, it has winding roads and limited parking, which can fill up quickly, especially during peak times. While it may not be as popular as some other spots, it offers a unique surf experience with its varied breaks.
The surf here works best with a northwesterly swell, peaking at around 2 to 8 feet (0.6 to 2.4 meters). You can find a defined left and a few rocky peaks, but it does need a peaky swell and mid to high tide to keep from closing out. There’s also a decent right that bodyboarders often enjoy when the sizes get bigger. Just be aware of some soft shoulders and waves that might not always connect well. When conditions are good, surfers can also enjoy some fun left/right peaks, especially at higher tides.
For those looking to make the most out of their surf session, a southeast wind is preferable. It's important to note that the spot is better suited for intermediate surfers due to the rocky nature of the bay and the uneven reef. Make sure to check the swell on head-high days with some north in it for the best results.
