At the southern end of the island is Cobras, which is known as a swell magnet for surfers looking for a fun session. This spot features a left-hand wave that can deliver a long barrel when the swell is right. It’s a decent go-to spot, especially when the swell is small. There’s also a right-hand wave named Warrens across a deeper channel if you’re into switching things up.
Cobras works best with a southwest swell direction, but it can handle swells coming from the south and west too. The waves usually perform well when the swell is around 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). Expect the surf to break over live coral, which gives it a unique feel. The preferred wind direction here is east, making for cleaner waves. You can surf at low, mid, or high tide, but many find the magic happening throughout the tide range. This spot is generally suited for intermediate surfers, so it’s perfect if you’re looking to step up your game.
While you’re at Cobras, keep in mind that the vibe can vary, and it gets crowded during peak times, especially when the waves are firing. It's a good idea to check in with locals before you paddle out and be respectful of the lineup. Enjoy your time out there!
