Cotterelle Beach surf guide

Cotterelle Beach is a peaky beachbreak located in the Jacmel area. It features a mix of sand and cobbles underfoot, making it one of the more consistent spots around. You'll likely find rideable waves here, especially during the November to March northeast season, although it's worth noting that many surfers often head to the north coast during those months. The beach offers a few different peaks, giving you options to choose from for your session.

This spot handles swell sizes starting at around 1ft (0.3 meters) and works best with southeast swell direction. You can expect both left and right waves breaking over boulders and sand. It typically offers short lefts and longer rights that wedge up on takeoff. However, be mindful of the closeout shorebreak which can catch you off guard, especially on bigger days. The best conditions happen with a north wind and when the tide is low, mid, or high. It's an intermediate-friendly spot where you can enjoy some varied rides.

For getting there, park in front of the beach, but make sure to leave enough space for local tap tap buses and traffic to get by on the narrow coast road. The road is flanked by steep hillsides, so it adds a bit of scenery to your trip. If you're looking to catch some morning glass, it's best to avoid the afternoon onshores, as conditions tend to change throughout the day.
