DeHaven Creek/Howard Creek is a couple of small beachbreaks located near Westport-Union Landing State Beach. These spots are pretty easy to find, as they’re visible from the road. Keep an eye out for the creek markers along Hwy 1 to make your way there. The atmosphere is laid-back, making it a decent place to chill and catch some waves.
The surf here is best with small, peaky, and glassy swells, hitting around 1ft (0.3m). It works well on a medium tide, especially at mid-tide levels. You can catch waves breaking over sand, with options to ride both left and right. Swells mostly come from the south or north, and you'll want an east wind to get the best conditions.
If you're looking to stay close to the surf, there’s cheap camping available in the nearby park, making it a convenient spot for surfers looking to spend a few days riding the waves.
